I’ve gone down a rabbit hole of math professors’ websites.
This math professor has a whole section On Writing on his website. A couple of my favorites from the section:
- his excellent idea for “rapid prototyping” method applied to writing papers (not exactly sure what this means but I like it). This seems particularly valuable for those of you who voiced frustration and how long it takes you to write.
- “Be considerate of your audience”
- One about not letting the perfect be the enemy of the good
This math professor is also excellent. (Probably at math, too, but all I care about is his interest in communicating technical concepts in clear language.) He came up with the “three things” exercise. He has another really cool thing: a list he maintains of great writing on math. Can you think of examples of great writing about engineering, or in your subdiscipline?
